 NEW YORK, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down .40 to 379.86. Declines led advances 251 to 216 with 244 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 9,477,435 shares, down from the 10,862,310 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Fruit of the Loom, down 7/8 to 31-7/8 on 346,300 shares, followed by Hasbro, up 1/4 to 27-5/8 on 332,500 shares. The third most active issue, International Murex was up 1-1/4 to 14-7/8 on 225,600 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 125,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, down 3/16 to 3-9/16 on 32,700 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 151,304 contracts changing hands as compared with 168,102 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the American Express July 25 series, up 1/8 to 1 on 3,550 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical July 90 series, up 3/16 to 13/16 on 2,516 contracts. The third most active was the Disney July 35 series down 1/16 to 1 on 2,183 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris July 80 series, up 1/8 to 3/8 on 2,175 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris July 75 series up 3/4 to 3-1/2 on 2,022 contracts. The third most active was the Cooper Industries August 45 series, up 1/4 to 1 on 2,000 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .24 to 140.02. Contracts volume 4,263, with 3,848 puts and 415 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.56 to 350.54. Contracts volume 8,560, with 4,178 puts and 4,382 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .15 to 35.05. Contracts volume 1,250, with 1,250 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 1.61 to 425.96. Contracts volume 5,563, with 3,148 puts and 2,415 calls.
