 NEW YORK, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.74 to 385.78. Advances led declines 279 to 241 with 261 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose eight cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,166,540 shares, down from the 12,506,020 shares traded yesterday. After-Hours volume totaled 2,000 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 11,168,540 shares.
 Topping the most active list was California Energy Company, unchanged 12-3/4 on 497,400 shares, followed by Fruit of the Loom, up 1 to 36 on 463,800 shares. The third most active issue, U.S. Bioscience was up 1/4 to 9-3/4 on 375,100 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 217,600 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, unchanged at 1-1/4 on 49,500 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 163,301 contracts changing hands as compared with 170,277 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Chase Manhattan May 25 series, down 1/8 to 3/8 on 5,700 contracts, followed by the MidCap Jun. 140 series, down 1-1/2 to 2-3/4 on 4,285 contracts. The third most active was the MidCap May 145 series down 2-1/2 to 4-1/4 on 1,752 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Chase Manhattan May 25 series, down 1/8 to 1-1/2 on 5,738 contracts, followed by the MidCap Jun. 140 series up 1-5/16 to 4-1/4 on 3,825 contracts. The third most active was the Pfizer May 70 series, up 1/4 to 1-1/4 on 2,257 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up 2.38 to 140.79. Contracts volume 13,885, with 7,774 puts and 6,111 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 2.96 to 351.90. Contracts volume 6,330, with 3,684 puts and 2,646 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 2.96 to 351.90. Contracts volume 50, with 50 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: up .30 to 35.19. Contracts volume 11 with 11 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 3.33 to 424.86. Contracts volume 1,558, with 783 puts and 775 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: up 3.33 to 424.86. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
