    NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.24 to 376.05. Advances led declines 304 to 273 with 231 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose four cents.
    Stock volume for the regular session totaled 17,802,645 shares, up from the 12,627,680 shares traded yesterday.  After-hours volume totaled 2,400 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 17,805,045 shares.
    There were 269 block trades, while 186 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
    Topping the most active list was Rhone-Poulenc CVR's, down 1/4 to 2-1/8 on 1,374,300 shares, followed by Echo Bay Mines, up 5/8 to 8-1/4 on 1,125,900 shares.  The third most active issue, U.S. Bioscience was up 6 to 62-3/4 on 1,033,000 shares.

    Trading in options was light today with 128,420 contracts changing hands as compared with 132,054 contracts traded yesterday.  Calls and puts both traded lower.
    Topping the most active list in puts was the Wells Fargo Dec. 80 series, up 7/8 to 21-1/4 on 1,575 contracts, followed by the Intergraph Dec. 40 series, unchanged at 4-5/8 on 1,500 contracts.  The third most active was the Intergraph Dec. 40 series down 1/4 to 1 on 1,114 contracts.
    Topping the most active list in calls was the Glaxo Dec. 30 series, down 1/16 to 1 on 2,743 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Dec. 350 series unchanged at 1/16 on 1,514 contracts.  The third most active was the Glaxo Feb. 30 series, down 1/4 to 2 on 1,490 contracts.
    AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
    Major Market Index: up 1.06 to 316.20.  Contracts volume 9,202, with 3,681 puts and 5,521 calls.
    Capped Major Market Index: up 1.06 to 316.20.  Contracts volume 410, with 200 puts and 210 calls.
    LT (XLT) Index: up .11 to 31.62.  Contracts volume 85, with 85 puts and 0 calls.
    Institutional Index: up 2.09 to 398.11.  Contracts volume 5,386, with 2,083 puts and 3,303 calls.
    Capped Institutional Index: up 2.09 to 398.11.  Contracts volume 11, with 10 puts and 1 calls.
    Japan Index: down .22 to 232.97.  Contracts volume 779, with 625 puts and 154 calls.
    Computer Technology Index: up .44 to 109.01.  Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
    Oil Index: down 1.55 to 235.39.  Contracts volume 107, with 91 puts and 16 calls.
    Most Active Major Market Index Option: Dec 350 calls, with a total of 1,514 contracts traded.
    Most Active Institutional Index Option: Dec 420 calls, with a total of 1,005 contracts traded.
