AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS

 NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock announced the promotions of seven Exchange staff members. Those named were:
 -- Joseph B. Stefanelli, to executive vice president, New Business-Equities.
 -- Ralph R. Rafaniello, to senior vice president, Floor Operations.
 -- Lois A. Schmidt, to senior vice president, Corporate Finance & Analysis and Corporate Relations.
 -- Frank A. Magnani, to vice president, Derivative Securities Sales.
 -- Richard Mikaliunas, to vice president, Derivative Securities Marketing.
 -- Andrew Preziosi, to vice president, Equity Markets.
 -- John S. Stimpfel, to vice president and corporate controller, Finance.
 "The future success of our Exchange depends upon the quality products and services we offer our members and member organizations," said Jules Winters, chief operating officer. "In striving towards this end, we intend to draw upon these professionals to help strengthen the Amex's competitive position by devoting their skills and energies to the areas which will benefit from their expertise the most."
 -- Joseph B. Stefanelli, 54, executive vice president, New Business-Equities, will be responsible for managing all resources dedicated to increasing new equity listings. Mr. Stefanelli had been senior vice president of Derivative Securities.
 -- Ralph R. Rafaniello, 45, senior vice president, Floor Operations is responsible for the daily operations of the trading floor, including manpower, systems, facilities and equipment. He previously served as vice president of Floor Operations.
 -- Lois A. Schmidt, 42, senior vice president, Corporate Finance & Analysis and Corporate Relations, will be responsible for the determination of listing eligibility of prospect companies and serve as liaison for listed companies. Ms. Schmidt had been vice president, Corporate Finance and Analysis.
 -- Frank A. Magnani, 37, vice president of Derivative Securities Sales, is responsible for the direction of the Derivative Securities sales team. Mr. Magnani had been managing director of Options Marketing.
 -- Richard Mikaliunas, 50, vice president, Derivative Securities Marketing, is responsible for the marketing activities of derivative products. Mr. Mikaliunas was previously managing director of the area.
 -- Andrew Preziosi, 48, vice president of Equity Markets, is in charge of issues related to member firm and institutional trading. Mr. Preziosi was previously director of the area.
 -- John S. Stimpfel, 50, vice president and corporate controller of Finance, will oversee daily operations of the Finance department. He previously served as corporate controller of the area.
