AMERICAN SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY EARNINGS ESTIMATE FOR FOURTH QUARTER FISCAL YEAR 1992

AMERICAN SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY EARNINGS ESTIMATE
FOR FOURTH QUARTER FISCAL YEAR 1992
ATLANTA, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMSWA) announced today a preliminary earnings estimate for the fourth fiscal quarter ended April 30 of $.12 to $.18 per share.
Earnings per share for the corresponding quarter in fiscal year 1991 were $.24 per share.
In making the announcement, Neal Miller, chief financial officer, indicated that there appear to be two primary reasons for the anticipated shortfall. "First, there were several license contracts which were anticipated to close by the end of April which have been deferred into May. Second, several contracts which were closed during the quarter contained components which will not be delivered until the first quarter of fiscal 1993 (ending July 1992). The revenue on those contracts will be recognized as the products are delivered."
American Software, headquartered in Atlanta, develops, markets and supports business application software for a wide range of end-users, including manufacturing companies, public utilities, financial institutions, healthcare facilities and distribution concerns. The company's common shares are traded in the National Over-The-Counter Market under the NASDAQ symbol AMSWA.
