AMERICAN POWER CONVERSION DEBUTS HIGH POWER BATTERY BACKUP.

American Power Conversion (APC) has expanded its Back-UPS family of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with the introduction of the Back-UPS RS 1000VA and 1500VA units. These new units offer more outlets, Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), and a longer runtime in a small, versatile footprint giving users enough power protection for more than one PC, including two 21" monitors, and multiple peripherals. In addition, an extra battery pack can be added to the 1500VA unit to triple the runtime capabilities.

The Back-UPS RS provides high-level battery backup and complete surge protection that includes data line protection to safeguard your PC, home theater and telecommunication devices from destructive surges that could enter and damage your equipment. The units AVR feature enables users to work through just about any power condition by supplying safe, consistent power to the computer in case of over voltage or brownout conditions. In addition it offers eight outlets, six offer surge protection and battery backup and two offer surge protection for non-data peripherals such as printers and scanners. Four of the eight high-powered outlets can accommodate transformer block shaped plugs to maximize outlet use.

"Today's business desktops are highly configured with several peripherals that require more outlets and higher power and runtime requirements. Users are looking for cost-effective, reliable solutions for protecting their hardware and more importantly their data on their desktops," said Joe Loberti, general manager, APC Consumer Network Solutions Group. "The Back-UPS RS provides high performance, all-in-one power protection with more outlets and longer runtime including file saving, auto-shutdown software to increase overall system reliability."

The Back-UPS RS comes equipped with USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectivity and includes APC's PowerChute Personal Edition software, which is easy-to-use, safe system shutdown software with sophisticated power management functions for use with Windows (XP, ME and 98) and Macintosh OSX operating systems.

The Back-UPS RS was designed in a compact, tower form factor and offers versatile mounting for either floor standing or as a (2U) shelf mount conveniently under the monitor on the desktop. The UPS offers user replaceable batteries and incorporates an intelligent battery management system that maximizes battery performance and reliability. The Back-UPS RS has an Equipment Protection Policy of $150,000 (see policy for details) and ships with a Data Recovery Warranty and a free trial Anti-Virus protection software.

The Back-UPS RS 1000 unit will supply up to 90 minutes of runtime for a typical computer system and the Back-UPS RS 1500 will supply up to 120 minutes of runtime. These runtimes give users the ability to work through most outages and have plenty of time to save programs and shutdown safely. Additionally, the Back-UPS RS 1500 unit can extend its runtime to 360 minutes with a purchase of an extra battery pack.

APC's new Back-UPS RS 1000 and 1500 units will be available in North America in January and carry a suggested retail price of $249.99 and $299.99 USD.
