AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE CLOSES SECOND COLORADO ACQUISITION; NATION'S LEADING PROVIDER OF AMBULANCE SERVICES EXPANDS COLORADO OPERATIONS

BOSTON, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- American Medical Response, Inc. (NYSE: EMT) announced today that it has successfully closed the previously announced acquisition of A-1 Ambulance Services, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado and Longmont, adjacent to the company's operations in Denver, Colorado. A-1 had revenues of approximately $8.3 million in 1992. Specific terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
"During our due diligence period, we became increasingly impressed with A-1's operational capability. Their management is even stronger than we had initially hoped for, and they are committed to our vision of quality and expansion," commented Paul M. Verrochi, chairman and chief executive officer of American Medical Response, Inc. "This acquisition is highly significant for us, because it gives us a second stake in Colorado -- Ambulance Service Company in Denver being the other. We are truly delighted to welcome A-1 to our partnership of entrepreneurs."
James R. Wood, president of A-1 Ambulance Services, said, "Over the last month, we've seen that American Medical Response shares the same values we do: namely, that the cornerstone for success in the emergency medical services business rests on providing the highest quality services possible. Based on their value systems and the enormous resources they provide, we now understand that they are ideal partners for entrepreneurs who want to build their businesses to the next level in this rapidly changing industry."
American Medical Response is the leading provider of emergency and non-emergency pre-hospital care in the nearly $5 billion ambulance services industry, and is the only publicly owned ambulance service company in the United States. It currently serves an aggregate population of more than 5 million people in California, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. American Medical Response responded to more than 400,000 emergency service calls during 1992. Through strategic acquisitions, American Medical Response intends to penetrate new areas of the country by expanding its established regions and consolidating operations.
