AMERICAN MEDICAL ELECTRONICS REPORTS FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THIRD
QUARTER, FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 1992
DALLAS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- American Medical Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMEI), a manufacturer and distributor of advanced devices for orthopaedics and neurosurgery, today reported that for the third quarter of 1992 ended Sept. 30, revenues reached $7,926,372, compared with $7,176,564 for the third quarter of 1991. Income before extraordinary item was $952,221 or 12 cents per share for the third quarter of 1992, and included an after-tax gain on sale of marketable securities that added $224,000 or 3 cents per share to earnings. That compared with income before extraordinary item of $929,575 or 12 cents per share for the third quarter a year ago. Net income was $952,221 or 12 cents per share, compared with $1,103,314 or 14 cents per share a year ago, which included a $173,739 extraordinary item that added 2 cents per share to the 1991 results.
For the nine months, revenues were $24,286,795, compared with $19,335,894 for the first nine months of 1991. Income before extraordinary item was $3,123,680 or 40 cents per share, compared with $2,083,397 or 31 cents per share a year ago. Net income reached $3,123,680 or 40 cents per share, compared with $2,694,250 or 40 cents per share for the first nine months of 1991, including a $610,853 extraordinary item that added 9 cents per share.
"September was one of the strongest revenue months in our history, but that was not enough to offset lower revenues in July and August for our PEMF products," said Joseph Mooibroek, president and chief executive officer. "Even with an aggressive cost-control program in place, the moderation in our revenue growth significantly impacted our earnings for the quarter.
"Looking to the fourth quarter of this year, we are encouraged by the sales strength AME displayed during September, as we enter what is historically the strongest quarter of our year," Mooibroek added.
AME produces and distributes medical devices used primarily by orthopaedic and neurosurgical professionals. The company's product lines include: the Spinal-Stim(R) System to enhance the healing of spinal fusions, Physio-Stim(R) bone growth stimulators for the healing of non-union fractures, the AME(R) Universal Bone Plate and Halifax(TM) Clamp cervical spine fixation systems, and the Carbon-One(TM) Halo System for patients suffering trauma or deteriorating cervical spine conditions.
