Palmdale took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Brian Stein's two-run single. Panorama City committed two errors in the inning and five for the game. But it was Palmdale's last lead.

Jung answered back with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to give Panorama City a 4-3 advantage.

The hitting continued in the sixth for Panorama City, which scored six runs. Barkley's eighth home run of the season - a two-run homer - highlighted the inning.

``We hit well today,'' Smith said. ``We probably played our best offensive game but our worst defensive game.''

Pitcher Evan Lovett improved his record to 4-1 for Panorama City, which is 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament A double-elimination tournament is a competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. . Palmdale was eliminated with its second defeat.

``I think I threw well today,'' said Lovett, who struck out five in eight innings while giving up three earned runs. ``I've been working on my pitching every day, and I think this was my best performance of the summer.''

Valley North 9, Van Nuys East 7: Greg Wold's two-run double in the seventh inning keyed a three-run inning as Valley North stayed unbeaten. David Sark had three hits and three RBI for Valley North, one of only two unbeaten teams left in the tournament. Mike Acosta hit a two-run home run for Van Nuys East.

Valley North plays tonight at 7 at Burroughs in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

Central Valley vs. Las Virgenes East: In a late game at Burroughs, Central Valley was holding an 11-7 lead in the top of the fifth inning at press time.
