Coach Pat Eggleston postponed Tuesday's afternoon game because of Canyon's commencement ceremonies. The team hosts Verdugo Hills this evening - one day after Hart's Wednesday graduation.

Eggleston said he isn't concerned about his Hart players possibly dragging into the Canyon High School dugout dugout: see canoe.  this evening after a long graduation night.

``Hopefully, they'll get some sleep and show up to the field rested,'' he said. ``I think they'll be OK.''

The graduation shuffle: Valencia (6-5) had a similar problem this week because of the school's Tuesday graduation.

Valencia's scheduled game for was moved to Monday and provided Valencia High School's outgoing seniors with an early graduation present: they actually got the opportunity to play a game on their own field.

Valencia had to play all but one game on the road during the prep season because of red tape and a lack of a safety clearance for its warning track.

Coach Pat Downs received approval to play Monday's game against Verdugo Hills on the varsity field, and his team initiated the field with a 13-2 victory. In the top of the first, Valencia pitcher Chris Honaker struck out the side to get Valencia off to a fast start.

``I started thinking this home cooking is a pretty good thing,'' Downs said.

Scheduling, part II: Saugus and Valencia were set to play each other last Saturday, but that contest was also put off because of scheduling problems. The game was rescheduled for June 28 at Valencia creating an unique doubleheader for both teams. Each team will play a morning game against different opponents before facing each other.

Truth about bats and arms: Newhall-Saugus was off to an area-best 7-4 record entering the week, but Eggleston was concerned about his team's offense. Newhall-Saugus has left an alarming number of runners on base, Eggleston said.
