Campos pitched a complete-game three-hitter to clinch the 19-and-under state title as Mid Valley defeated Cal Gold of Hemet 6-1 in a second championship game after Cal Gold handed Mid Valley its first loss of the double-elimination tournament A double-elimination tournament is a competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches.  earlier in the day, 12-6, at the Veterans Home of California.

``We talked about that (Monday night),'' Marcial said. ``If we didn't go home with a championship, it would have been a disappointment. We wanted to win. Nobody remembers who the runner-up is.''

Campos made sure Mid Valley's day was a memorable one. In his first start in more than a year, he struck out 13 and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. He took a shutout into the ninth inning.

``I wasn't even expecting to pitch,'' said Campos, who has been used as a reliever, but spent most of the summer as an outfielder and second baseman second baseman
