AMERICAN LEAGUE: INSIDE THE A.L.: NO PROBLEMS, MONDESI TELLS YANKS.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

Raul Mondesi ripped management while with the Dodgers and ripped management while with Toronto. Now he's a Yankee, coming to New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
in a trade from the Blue Jays for minor leaguers July 1.

``Perfect,'' Mondesi said during his introductory news conference when he tried on his Yankees cap for the first time.

Mondesi has played on good teams during his career, particularly with the Dodgers. But when he wasn't happy, he made sure to drag others down with him.

``Now, I know I'm going to play for something,'' Mondesi said, as though he's never played on a contender before. ``Now, I know I have a good chance to play for a champion team.

``I don't want to say anything bad against the Blue Jays, but every game we played, the first few innings, we were losing 5-0, 6-0.''

Considering he was hitting .224 with the Blue Jays, Mondesi was part of the problem. But he had an excuse.

``You can't concentrate when you hear your name all the time with trades,'' he said.

For now, Mondesi promises not to rock the boat. Told that Yankees players are not allowed to wear jewelry on the field, Mondesi said: ``No problems.''

In order to make room for Mondesi on the roster, the Yankees designated ex-Dodger Karim Garcia for assignment.

--Yankees miss O'Neill: Before the Yankees acquired Mondesi, the front office considered asking Paul O'Neill Paul O'Neill may refer to:
  • Paul O'Neill (baseball player), a former Major League Baseball player and current broadcaster
  • Paul O'Neill (cabinet member), United States businessman and government official
 to come out of retirement.

``They had talked about that,'' owner George Steinbrenner George Michael Steinbrenner III (born July 4, 1930 in Rocky River, Ohio), often known as "The Boss", is an American billionaire businessman and the principal owner of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees.  told the New York Times. ``I'm not sure where they are with O'Neill. You know the way I feel about him. He's a leader. He's a warrior.''

--You make the call: Seattle pitcher Freddy Garcia and Oakland pitcher Tim Hudson Timothy Adam Hudson (born July 14, 1975 in Salem, Alabama[1] ) is a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the Atlanta Braves. Hudson began his major league career with the Oakland Athletics (1999-2004) and played his last two years of college  are regarded as two of the best pitchers in the league, but who's better between the two?

So far, it's just about a dead heat. Both have started 105 games in their careers and both are 54-24. Garcia's ERA is slightly better at 3.63, compared to Hudson's 3.65.

--Take care of your bats: Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is meticulous when it comes to his bats. He has a metal case that holds 10 bats and is kept inside a locked room in the Mariners clubhouse, and he has a smaller carrying case for road trips.

Both contain a chemical rod that keep the bats from losing or gaining moisture.

--All-Star bonus money: Thirty-seven of the 60 All-Stars will receive bonuses this year ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

The biggest payouts go to Barry Bonds Barry Lamar Bonds (born July 24 1964 in Riverside, California) is a left fielder for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball.
