AMERICAN FOREST RESOURCE ALLIANCE ISSUES STATEMENT ON FORESTRY BILL

AMERICAN FOREST RESOURCE ALLIANCE ISSUES STATEMENT ON FORESTRY BILL
WASHINGTON, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was issued by Mark Rey, American Forest Resource Alliance executive director, after the House Interior Committee postponed its markup on a forestry bill:
"The timber industry is disappointed that the Interior Committee was unable to report a forestry bill to the House.
"The blame must be placed squarely on the preservationists, both on the committee and among special interest groups, who have been intransigent and unreasonable in reaching any compromise. They're like children who, if they can't have their way, refuse to play the game.
"We expect committee negotiations and pressure tactics by preservation groups and their allies in Congress to continue. We hope a compromise can be reached that protects both jobs and the environment in the forests of the Northwest and California.
"Any bill reported by the committee must have sufficiency language that protects the land management agencies from continued harassment by the preservationists through the courts."
