 PRESIDENT OF KINGSPORT POWER COMPANY
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael J. Holzaepfel has been elected president and chief operating officer of Kingsport Power Company, an operating company of American Electric Power Company, Inc. (NYSE: AEP), effective June 1.
 Holzaepfel, 46, is a veteran of 23 years of service in the AEP System. Since 1987, he has been manager of the Athens Division of Columbus Southern Power Company.
 He is a registered professional engineer and a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1969. He furthered his engineering training at Akron University, and he is working toward a master's degree in business administration at Kent State University.
 Holzaepfel began his work with the company as an electrical engineer in the Canton Division of Ohio Power Company in 1969, and he moved to the Canton general office as a distribution engineer in 1973. In 1974, he began working in a series of employee and labor relations positions that led to his promotion to labor relations supervisor for Ohio Power in 1980.
 Holzaepfel also served as administrative assistant to the president of Ohio Power in 1983 and as manager of Ohio Power's Cambridge Area from 1984 until 1987.
 He has been active in several Athens area business, educational and charitable organizations. He is president of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, which gave him its Distinguished Service Award in 1991. He has also served on the boards of the Athens County Community Improvement Corporation and the local unit of the Salvation Army.
 He has also served as vice president of the Athens Foundation, a member of the economic development task force committee of the Southeastern Ohio Regional Council, co-president of the Morrison Elementary School PTO and vice president of the Athens High School Athletic Boosters. He has been an instructor for the Ohio Basic Economic Development Course and is a member of the Athens Rotary Club.
 He and his wife, Pamela, have four children. Together, they co- chaired the 1991 United Way Campaign in Athens County.
 Holzaepfel succeeds Thomas A. Rotenberry, who has moved to head Appalachian Power Company's West Virginia operations as vice president.
 In 1991, Kingsport Power served 39,385 customers in northeastern Tennessee and generated $71.2 million in operating revenues. It is one of seven operating companies in the AEP System.
