AMERICAN DENTAL LASER TAKING CONTRACT DISPUTE WITH SUNRISE TECHNOLOGIES TO BINDING ARBITRATION

AMERICAN DENTAL LASER TAKING CONTRACT DISPUTE WITH SUNRISE TECHNOLOGIES
 TO BINDING ARBITRATION
TROY, Mich., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- American Dental Laser, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADLI) today announced it is taking a contract dispute with Sunrise Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNRS) to binding arbitration. Sunrise is the original equipment manufacturer of ADL's Nd:YAG dental laser.
American Dental Laser said differences have arisen in the interpretation of contracts. The companies have been unable to agree on the number of lasers American Dental Laser is required to order in 1992 and related issues.
American Dental Laser said it has sufficient inventory to meet near- term demand and that its right to obtain the ADL Nd:YAG 300 dental laser from Sunrise is not in dispute. In response to remarks by Sunrise that it is exploring the possibility of distributing dental lasers overseas, American Dental Laser pointed out that it owns all distribution rights worldwide and will vigorously oppose any such attempt by Sunrise.
"We were still negotiating the matter privately and believed we were close to resolution. We were disappointed when Sunrise decided to take the negotiations public yesterday," said Daniel S. Goldsmith, ADL president and chief executive officer.
"The contracts require binding arbitration, and it is now in the best interest of American Dental Laser for arbitrators to resolve these differences," Goldsmith said.
American Dental Laser, headquartered in Troy, develops high technology products for dentistry and markets them worldwide. The company's stock is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol ADLI.
