AMERICAN BUSINESS INFORMATION REPORTS SECOND QUARTER RESULTS

 OMAHA, Neb., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- American Business Information, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABII) today reported second quarter net sales of $14.0 million and net income of $2.6 million, or 19 cents per share.
 Financial Results
 Net sales in the second quarter of 1993 were $14.0 million, an increase of 16 percent over the $12.1 million in the second quarter of 1992. Net sales for the six month period ended June 30, 1993, were $27.8 million compared to $24.5 million in the same period in 1992, a 13 percent increase.
 Net income for the second quarter of 1993 was $2.6 million or 19 cents per share, a 12 percent increase from the $2.3 million in the comparable period in 1992. For the six month period ended June 30, 1993, net income was $5.5 million or 40 cents per share compared to $4.7 million, or 36 cents per share in the first six months of 1992. Per share amounts for the six month period ended June 30, 1993, were affected by the increase in the number of shares outstanding resulting from the company's public offering in February 1992.
 Operating cash flow for the first six months of 1993 was $5.5 million bringing cash and marketable securities to $18.6 million at June 30, 1993. Shareholders' equity was $45.4 million at June 30, 1993, compared to $39.5 million at Dec. 31, 1992.
 Operation expenses for the second quarter of 1993 increased 23 percent over the prior year period. This increase in spending reflects the company's increased investment in enhancing the quality and depth of its database, in developing new products and in expanding its distribution channels.
 Approximately 1.3 million of the 10 million businesses in the United States are selling their product or service to other businesses. American Business Information, Inc. is positioned to meet the marketing needs of these 1.3 million businesses. To accomplish this goal, the company is embarking upon a major expansion of its marketing activity. This will include establishing field sales offices in major metropolitan areas. Each office will be staffed with knowledgeable account executives who will provide consultative selling of products and services to the businesses in their area. The field sales force will work with these businesses closely to help them accomplish their objectives of recruiting new customers and increase their revenue.
 American Business Information has been actively recruiting senior level marketing managers to accomplish its goals. During the past three months, the company filled several of these marketing positions to specialize on specific segments of the company's markets, such as National Account Sales, Government, CD-ROM Consumer Products, ABI Network and Canadian Sales. The company is actively recruiting for other senior level marketing positions which it hopes to fill during the next six months.
 On June 1, 1993, ABI acquired an 80 percent interest in American Business Communications. It is a leading provider of continuing education and training programs to small and medium sized businesses. American Business Communications will keep its current educational programs and offer additional new training topics in the marketing area. American Business Information can help businesses improve marketing efficiency by providing educational programs in business- to-business marketing. Customers will learn how to use modern tools to develop better marketing plans, and how to implement those plans to become more growth-oriented.
 American Business Information believes it has the finest database of 11 million U.S. and Canadian businesses, providing information vital to business-to-business marketers. Once customers learn to use the data and different products and services, they become loyal and repeat customers. The company's investment in the expansion of its distribution channels and products should allow it to reach those 1.3 million business-to-business marketers.
