AMERICAN BUSINESS INFORMATION ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS, STAFF ADDITIONS

 OMAHA, Neb., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- American Business Information, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABII), an Omaha-based compiler and distributor of business information, announced plans today to expand its Omaha operations as part of a nationwide increase in sales offices. The company intends to build new office space and add up to 300 new employees over the next several years.
 Chief Executive Officer Vinod Gupta, explained that the company is considering sites to build 40,000 square feet of field office space in the year ahead. The new location will be staffed by 100 new employees the first year, and possibly another 200 employees the following two years.
 "Earlier this year we announced intentions to expand our sales force across the country, with a goal of 50 sales offices in major cities. These sales offices will require a great deal of support staff, which we intend to provide from a new facility here in the metropolitan Omaha area," said Gupta. He added, "We are very excited about our future growth potential through new services such as the CD-ROM products and expansion of the ABI Network. The latest Omaha expansion will eventually bring our work force in metropolitan Omaha to more than 800 employees."
 American Business Information presently employs about 600 people from its 70,000-square-foot headquarters in Ralston, Neb., and its 30,000-square-foot office/warehouse facility in Carter Lake, Iowa. Gupta said the new expansion project could be built near one of these two sites, or at another location.
 Gupta also announced the hiring of five senior level managers to lead the national sales efforts. Mike Moritz has joined the firm as VP national sales manager for field office sales; Chris Lundgren as national sales manager for national account sales; Scott Christensen as general manager for the ABI Network; Barry Sheldon as national sales manager for government markets; and Jim Bates as national sales manager for the Canadian division. Sheldon will office in Washington, D.C., and Bates in Toronto, while the other three senior managers will be located in the Omaha area.
