AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION REPORTS ON PRELIMINARY NEW TRUCK SALES FOR MAY

 WASHINGTON, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Franchised dealers of truck manufacturers sold 499,998 units in May, the highest monthly sales total on record, surpassing the record set in April, according to a preliminary report issued today by the American Automobile Manufacturers Association.
 Retail sales for May were 23.9 percent above sales for the month a year ago. There were 25 selling days in this period, the same as a year ago.
 May sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5,430,000, a 19.9 percent increase from the May 1992 seasonally adjusted rate of 4,529,000 units.
