AMERICAN AIRLINES MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT

DALLAS/FORT WORTH AIRPORT, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The following letter was issued to all American Airlines employees today by Robert Crandall, the airline's chairman and president, and was read to news media during a news briefing about the restoration of full flight operations:
 TO ALL EMPLOYEES:
There's always something exciting in our business!
For some reason, a columnist in Los Angeles -- whom I have neither seen nor spoken to recently -- has suggested that I am about to resign.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The events of the last few days have created a major upheaval at the Company and as those events unfolded, I have been in constant touch with our Board of Directors. While none of us are pleased by anything that's happened -- the fact that the APFA felt moved to call a strike, the fact that many of our flights did not operate with passengers for almost five days, or the fact that we are now subject to binding arbitration -- my views and those of each of our Board members have been in complete conformity throughout this period. I feel perfectly comfortable in saying that I have the complete and total support of each and every member of the Board.
Additionally, we have stayed in touch with our major shareholders and those who analyze airline securities throughout this period and, while there are always dissenting voices, I think it is clear that the vast majority of those people believe that it is important for us to do everything possible to control our costs. Thus, they too have given us excellent support.
As I've said in recent letters to you all, I think it's time for all of us to come together -- to put our past disagreements behind us -- and turn our thoughts to the future. That's what I'm doing -- and I hope that's what everyone else will do as well.
 Sig/Robert Crandall
