AMERICA SERVICE GROUP AWARDED FULL SERVICE ARMY CONTRACT

 NEW CASTLE, Del., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- America Service Group Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: ASGR) announced today that ASG Management Company, Inc. (ASGM), a wholly owned subsidiary, was awarded a contract by the Department of the Army to provide ambulatory care services at the PRIMUS (Primary Care for the Uniformed Services) Clinic in Fayetteville, N.C.
 The contract begins April 1, 1993, for an initial six-month period, with options to renew annually for up to four additional years. Total value of the contract is $2.8 million for the first six-month period and in excess of $20 million over the four-and-one-half-year period.
 Jeffrey A. Reasons, president of America Service Group Inc., announced, "This award marks our expansion into the full service, freestanding ambulatory care market, and fully establishes ASGR as a strong competitor in the DOD health contracting sector. This is the second major sector of the DOD market we have been able to penetrate." ASGM has been operating the Emergency Department of the Naval Hospital at Bremerton, Wash., since October 1992.
 America Service Group Inc. trades as "ASGR" on the NASDAQ National Market System. Through its subsidiaries, Prison Health Services, Inc. (PHS) and ASG Management Company, Inc. (ASGM), ASGR contracts to provide managed health care services to correctional facilities throughout the United States and to federal governmental agencies. Through its newest subsidiary, UniSource, ASGR packages and sells pharmaceutical and related products to physicians, maritime vessels and to institutions where health care services are currently being delivered through Prison Health Services, Inc. and ASG Management Company, Inc.
