New Atlanta Habitat Homeowner Will 'Pass The Hammer'
On To Future San Antonio Homeowner
ATLANTA, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Favorite Chicken Company (AFC) and Habitat for Humanity (HFH) are dedicating the first of AFC's 200 Habitat homes planned worldwide.
The dedication is being held on Sunday, Aug. 22, in the Mechanicsville area of Atlanta from 1-3 p.m.
Lisa Jones, AFC's first Habitat homeowner and the mother of two young sons, will present a symbolic hammer to Paulette Brown, a San Antonio, Texas, mother of two and AFC's next Habitat homeowner. The hammer will be passed on to future AFC/HFH homeowners from site to site around the world as a gesture of the company's ongoing commitment to Habitat.
AFC, the parent company of Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits and Church's Chicken, completed the Jones' home during an eight-week building effort by Atlanta-area AFC, Popeyes and Church's employee volunteers as part of its international "Dream Builders" program.
"AFC, Church's and Popeyes are proud to unite the efforts of our people, and the dollars of our company, to do our share of rebuilding America by helping families gain affordable homes," said Frank Belatti, AFC's chairman and chief executive officer. "'Dream Builders' gives us a powerful new voice with which to speak. We are proud to have completed AFC's first Habitat home in Atlanta, the site of our new corporate home. By inviting our franchisees, our employees, our suppliers and our customers to join the Habitat team, we hope to lead the way towards fulfilling the dream of homeownership for low-income families."
AFC's Atlanta Habitat home is the first of 200 Habitat home-builds the company plans around the world over the next five years as part of its commitment to raise $7 million for Habitat, the largest corporate commitment in the international organization's 18-year history and one of the largest of its kind in the fast-food industry.
"The AFC 'Dream Builders' program links the growth of Habitat for Humanity's mission around the world with the most comprehensive program that a corporation has ever put forth," said Millard Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International's founder and president. "This level of support is unprecedented. We look forward to great accomplishments together."
Fuller will attend Sunday's dedication along with Belatti, other AFC executives and "Dream Builder" volunteers, as well as Atlanta business and community leaders.
AFC already has been recognized by President Bill Clinton and former President Jimmy Carter for its commitment to build 200 Habitat homes throughout the world in the next five years.
