AMD Purchases Software and Services from TriQuest for Next Generation Microprocessor RTL Optimization; Benefit of RTL Optimization Realized.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--TriQuest Design Automation, a leading supplier of high-level behavioral and RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  optimization software Free and Open Source software

, today announced a significant purchase agreement with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips. ).

AMD will use high-end products from the TriQuest Controller Architect (TCA TCA

) family of advanced design tools for the development of next generation microprocessors. In addition, AMD will enlist TriQuest's consulting services to help meet performance and timing requirements on future devices.

"Our relationship with AMD is terrific validation for TriQuest and its products," said Steve Butler Steve Butler (born September 26, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas) was an open-wheel racer who was successful in USAC Sprint Car and Silver Crown racing. Steve currently resides in Kokomo, IN. , president of TriQuest. "AMD conducted extensive evaluations and our products performed extremely well. They truly demonstrated the benefit of RTL optimization by allowing AMD to more easily reach higher frequencies. We are very excited and pleased to be working with AMD on an advanced methodology for its next generation of designs."

Stephen King, engineering manager in AMD's Texas microprocessor division, "In order to meet the performance requirements for AMD's next generation of processors, design optimization will need to occur at the RTL level. TriQuest's tools provide RTL optimization and estimation for controller circuits that goes far beyond traditional logic optimization."

The TCA product family represents a complete design environment for the optimization and analysis of controllers. Designers interactively select from a variety of optimization and restructuring algorithms to quickly build and test new implementations that meet their timing requirements. TCA products help designers quickly meet submicron frequencies; eliminate the growing problems of multiple logic synthesis iterations; reduce design size; and boost verification productivity by 10X or more.

The product family ranges from entry level to advanced and provides the highest performance through TriQuest's proprietary Knowledge Driven Optimization Technology (KDOT KDOT Kansas Department of Transportation ). KDOT consists of a variety of optimization and restructuring algorithms that support pre-synthesis analysis for dramatic gains in performance, by as much as 50 percent, and designer efficiency. Because KDOT works at the RTL level, it runs extremely fast, allowing tools based on this technology to be interactive with the designer.

AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets. AMD produces processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices, and products for communications and networking applications. Founded in 1969 and based in Sunnyvale, Calif., AMD had revenues of $2.5 billion in 1995 (NYSE NYSE
