AMD Improves Operational Efficiencies, Inventory Control and Realizes Substantial Savings Through Agreement With Serus.

System Reduces Inventory Variances, Monthly Scrap and Provides Real-Time Product Costing and Valuation

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Serus Corporation, a global provider of Intelligent Operations Management (IOM) solutions for growing enterprises, today announced initial results from the deployment of its solution at AMD (NYSE:AMD). In its ongoing effort to improve its supply to market strategy and better manage manufacturing costs, AMD, a leading provider of innovative processing solutions with more than $5.6 billion in revenue, selected Serus to manage its global manufacturing operations and consolidated WIP tracking. AMD expects to immediately realize substantial savings by retiring its antiquated legacy system.

The deployment has resulted in improved WIP visibility, manufacturing efficiencies and better financial controls just months after the solutions went live. "We had a 23-year-old piece of software that was incredibly out-of-date, hard to maintain, and almost impossible to extend," said Clay Cipione, Chief Information Officer, AMD. AMD spent 14 months implementing Serus' advanced manufacturing suite, termed INCA (Inventory Consolidation and Accountability). The process began in late 2005 when Serus interviewed over 200 AMD employees at five sites across North America, Asia and Europe to learn more about AMD's existing WIP system and ancillary shadow tools which were created in order to fill gaps in the outdated legacy system.

INCA is composed of four integrated systems: Inventory Management, Master Data, Inventory Unit Calculations and Fulfillment. It increases supply to market velocity while reducing inventory variance to less than 0.1%. The book value of inventory virtually matches the actual physical inventory, which improves supply visibility, control, risk management and valuation accuracy.

Through INCA, AMD receives real-time monitoring of key operations and supply-to-market inventory metrics. This makes it easier than ever to ensure fulfillment cycle time commitments and to achieve fast and accurate financial closure at month and quarter end. Every four hours, AMD's MES system takes a snapshot of inventory levels while INCA does the same. The two are compared and, if any discrepancies exist, INCA automatically identifies and reconciles the cause. Thus, AMD's supply chain and operations planners have more accurate information at their fingertips than ever before.

"The production results to date are very tangible in that we have reduced our monthly financial close cycle time, completed inventory costing two days after quarter end and expect to save substantially on recurring IT expenditures. INCA is processing over a million transactions per month with a 99.5% success rating, across three continents. This successful deployment represents a sizable feat for AMD."
