Joining the AMD Athlon XP A family of Pentium-compatible CPU chips from AMD introduced in 2001. Departing from the traditional MHz designation, Athlon XP chips use model numbers that combine clock speed and architectural features into a numerical rating.  and AMD Athlon MP processors, the new mobile processor will be identified with model numbers, as opposed to clock speed in megahertz One million cycles per second. See MHz.

MegaHertz - (MHz) Millions of cycles per second. The unit of frequency used to measure the clock rate of modern digital logic, including microprocessors.
. In October 2001, AMD announced the True Performance Initiative (TPI (Tracks Per Inch) The measurement of the density of the storage channels on a disk or tape. Track density on magnetic disks has reached 125,000 tpi (125 Ktpi). See bpi, areal density and magnetic disk. ), through which AMD will assist customers in understanding the benefits of PC performance. The TPI also will help define a more accurate measure of processor performance for standard applications.
