Burdick joined AMD in 1991 as a senior manager of quality information systems and became director of worldwide CIM in 1993. Prior to joining AMD, he was

director of manufacturing systems at Harris Semiconductor, where he deployed the first Unix-based systems in manufacturing and engineering analysis.

Burdick has a master's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, both from the University of South Florida
