AMD's InterWave Processor to Ship in Compaq's Presario Ultimate Multimedia Line.


AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1996--AMD today announced that Compaq Computer Corporation (company) Compaq Computer Corporation - The largest US manufacturer and vendor of IBM PC compatible personal computers and servers. Compaq was started in 1982 by three ex-Texas Instruments employees.

 has selected the Am78C201 InterWave audio processor to supply high-fidelity wavetable audio for Compaq's new Presario 8000 Series of personal computers designed for the multimedia enthusiast.

AMD's InterWave audio processor offers the latest sound technology in a single chip: full-duplex voice communications capability for real-time interactive conversation over the Internet, a downloadable 16-bit, 32-voice stereo wavetable synthesizer, 16-bit recording and playback, an audio mixer compatible with the MPC (1) (Mobile PC) A handheld or laptop computer.
