:AMCC) today announced the introduction of EYEMAX(TM) technology, a proprietary combination of AMCC's enhanced forward error correction A communications technique that can correct bad data on the receiving end. Before transmission, the data are processed through an algorithm that adds extra bits for error correction. If the transmitted message is received in error, the correction bits are used to repair it.  (EFEC EFEC Enhanced Forward Error Correction ) and dispersion compensation intellectual property.

The first generation of the EYEMAX(TM) technology is implemented in a combination of the Niagara (S19208) EFEC mapper and AMCC's SuperPHY(TM) family of physical layer products. This generation is targeted at 10Gbps Metro transport and Long Reach Markets and enables customers to significantly reduce the optical component costs typically associated with this level of transmission performance.

"We are really excited about the benefits this breakthrough technology can bring to our customers in a broad range of applications," said Doug Spreng, AMCC's president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

performance in the Niagara, the chip also offers an extremely comprehensive set of performance monitoring capabilities. Like the Hudson FEC device before it, the Niagara is compliant to the G.709 ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  standard, and provides G.709 client capabilities in addition to G.709 transport capabilities.

In conjunction with Niagara, AMCC's SuperPHY physical layer devices provide exceptional error correcting techniques including AMCC's proprietary dispersion compensation design. These SuperPHY devices also provide exceptional performance including jitter, edge rates, input sensitivity, output swings, and bandwidth.
