) (NASDAQ:AMCC) has licensed SafeNet's SafeXcel IP cores to enable secure communications in their next generation PowerPC(R) processors for networking and pervasive applications.

The security block in AMCC's PowerPC architecture based 440EPx and 440GRx processors is provided by SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Packet Engine--a silicon-proven cryptographic accelerator for Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), Secure Socket Layer (SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data. ), Transport Layer Security (TLS (1) (Transport Layer Security) A security protocol from the IETF that is based on the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 protocol developed by Netscape. TLS uses digital certificates to authenticate the user as well as authenticate the network (in a wireless ), and Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol The Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (or SRTP) defines a profile of RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol), intended to provide encryption, message authentication and integrity, and replay protection to the RTP data in both unicast and multicast applications.  (SRTP (Secure RTP) See RTP. ). The SafeXcel IP Packet Engine is designed to meet the needs of semiconductor manufacturers, featuring versatility, ease of integration, and high performance.
