Reducing Real Estate, Power and Cost

This unequaled level of integration offers a 65 percent reduction in board real estate compared to existing solutions. This drastically reduces design complexity, combined with a significant decrease in power and cost. With typical jitter generation of less than 6.0mUI rms and world class jitter tolerance of 0.5UI, the YUKON is the first in a series of highly integrated solutions that leverage the company's expertise in mixed signal design at multi-gigabit data rates.

"YUKON is a momentous achievement for AMCC and provides revolutionary design advantages for our customers," said Brent Little, AMCC's vice president of marketing. "Consistent with recent market trends this device will enable new levels of OC-48c line card density and cost. It is proof positive of the enormous synergy and fusion borne from our acquisition of Cimaron just last year."

YUKON processes SONET/SDH STS-48c data streams with full duplex mapping of ATM packets into SONET/SDH payloads. Implemented in 3.3V technology with 3.4W of typical power, the single-chip solution provides full section, line, and path overhead processing and fully supports SONET/SDH framing and ATM/POS capability. For simplified board design, the YUKON provides a serial CML 1. CML - A query language.

"This is only the beginning of the integration potential to be realized from the union of our design teams," said Ram Sudireddy, vice president of AMCC and formerly Cimaron's president and chief executive officer. "We've broken the barrier between overhead processors and transceivers/CDRs without sacrificing performance, and we will continue to aggressively develop and integrate solutions that address the most urgent needs of our customers."

"This feat of engineering has reduced chip count and therefore design complexity while dramatically cutting power and price," said Perminder Chohan, product marketing manager at AMCC. "YUKON is the most robust addition to AMCC's OC-48c product portfolio yet, providing unprecedented digital and analog integration comprising framing, mapping, serialization/deserialization and world class CDR/CSU functionality."

YUKON affords a 32-bit parallel interface, operating at 100 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  on the system side, and imparts a low-cost, low power mapping solution that will offer high reliability, lower board debug and easier control of EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices.
