Rickey, has been selected as the 1999 recipient of the San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Yeara Award for Telecommunications.

As the San Diego winner in this category, Rickey continues on as a nominee for the National Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, to be presented at the Ernst & Young Annual International Conference Awards Gala in Palm Springs, California Palm Springs is a famed Riverside County, California desert resort city, approximately 110 miles (177 km) east of Los Angeles and 140 miles (225 km) northeast of San Diego. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 42,807. , this November.

Rickey's award recognizes his visionary leadership and true entrepreneurial spirit in the semiconductor industry. Beginning his career with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  in 1981, Rickey came to San Diego in 1985 to join Northern Telecom, where he worked for eight years. Rickey then began his tenure at AMCC in 1993 as VP of Operations, leaving briefly in 1995 to serve in a similar capacity at NexGen. AMCC's Board of Directors brought him back in February of 1996 as President and CEO, giving him the charter to tighten the company's strategic focus, revitalize product development and heighten profitability, with a goal to also position AMCC for a successful initial public offering.
