AMC Theatres To Open First Megaplex in France.

DUNKERQUE, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1999--

AMC Theatres will introduce the first megaplex entertainment experience to France with the grand opening Nov. 23 of a 20-screen theatre in Dunkerque.

The AMC Marine 20 is the latest innovative example of the megaplex concept that has been integrated into the first urban leisure centre in France, the 250,000-square-foot (23,226 m2) Pole Marine. The leisure centre, located on Dunkerque's historic docks area, also features sit-down restaurants along with retailers such as Go Sport, Virgin Megastores, La Grand Recre and Connexion. The Pole Marine centre will officially open Nov. 22, with the mayor of Dunkerque and other French national and local dignitaries attending.

The AMC megaplex is at the leading edge of theatre design, offering moviegoers the finest customer amenities and the most dynamic screen presentation available, along with a greater choice of films and viewing times. A megaplex is a multi-screen theatre featuring wall-to-wall screens, stadium-style seating in plush, high-backed LoveSeats(R) with retractable armrests and AMC's signature cupholders, and other special amenities to enhance the moviegoing experience.

Megaplex technology includes AMC's proprietary High Impact Theatre System (HITS), which combines wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling screens with full digital sound systems featuring Sony Dynamic Digital Sound(R) (SDDS(R)).

The AMC Marine 20 will include 20 auditoriums with a total of 4,008 LoveSeat-style seats. For extra comfort, the megaplex features extra-wide row spacing in all auditoriums and radius seating in selected auditoriums.

The concession stands will feature classic American theatre fare such as hot dogs, nachos, candy and, of course, hot, buttered popcorn and soft drinks, along with selected French refreshments. Combining new design principles with AMC's training program for food handlers, AMC's concessions eliminate long lines, setting a new standard for the industry.
