AMC Presents a Golden Globes Marathon On Sunday, January 20.

On Sunday, January 20th, AMC salutes the 59th Annual Golden Globe(R) Awards ceremony with "Around the Globes with AMC," featuring four Golden Globe-winning films, including GANDHI, starring Ben Kingsley, and HEAVEN CAN WAIT, starring Warren Beatty, Dyan Cannon and James Mason.

"Around the Globes" begins at 10:00 AM (ET) with the musical comedy DOCTOR DOLITTLE (1967). Rex Harrison earned a Golden Globe nomination for his turn as a veterinarian who can communicate with animals. The film was nominated for five additional awards, including Best Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy. Richard Attenborough won the Golden Globe(R) for Best Supporting Actor.

The epic biographical drama GANDHI (1982), airing next at 12:35 PM (ET), won all five of its Golden Globe(R) nominations. Ben Kingsley won two awards - for Best Actor and for Best New Male Star of the Year - for his enthralling portrayal of the lawyer who became a world-wide symbol of non-violent leadership. Richard Attenborough won the Golden Globe for Best Director, and the film won awards for Best Foreign Film and Best Screenplay

At 3:50 PM (ET), John Wayne delivers a Golden Globe-winning performance as tough, retired U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn in the Western TRUE GRIT (1969), based on the Charles Portis novel. When tomboy Kim Darby's father is killed, she recruits Wayne to help her avenge his death. Glen Campbell earned a Golden Globe(R) nomination for Most Promising Newcomer (Male) for his role as a Texas Ranger, and the title song was nominated for Best Original Song.

The festival concludes at 6:05 PM (ET) with the comedy, HEAVEN CAN WAIT (1978), which won all three Golden Globes(R). Warren Beatty took home the Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy award for his performance as a Los Angeles Rams quarterback who dies before his time and is placed in the body of a recently murdered millionaire. Dyan Cannon, Beatty's scheming, homicidal wife, won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical/Comedy, and the film won Best Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy. (Also at 5:30 AM.)
