AMBULANCE SERVICE SWITCHES.

A national medical transport company based in Colorado has taken over ambulance service in the north county after buying the family-run Wilson Ambulance Service Inc., a company official said Monday.

American Medical Response American Medical Response, Inc. (AMR) is the largest private ambulance provider in the United States. AMR and EmCare are wholly owned subsidiaries of EMSC L.P., an emergency management company held by the investment firm Onex. AMR is based out of Greenwood Village, Colorado. , one of the nation's largest ambulance companies, has begun replacing Wilson's yellow-and-blue emergency vehicles with red-and-white ambulances.

AMR (1) (Adaptive Multi-Rate) A variable rate speech codec selected by the 3GPP for the 3G evolution of the GSM cellphone system (WCDMA). Using the Algebraic CELP (ACELP) compression technology, AMR provides toll quality sound at transmission rates from 4.75 to 12.  retained the Wilson employees to maintain familiarization with the area, said Joyce Johnson, contracts and marketing manager for the locally based operation. Herb and Dorothy Wilson of Palmdale, who founded the company in 1959, retired.

The company also hopes to accommodate managed health care programs requiring nonemergency patients to be admitted to specific hospitals, she said.

Wilson's contract with the county was taken over by AMR, which will merge next month with San Diego-based MedTrans. The company will retain the AMR name.

The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern  as well as in several other states.
