AMAS COULD SHOW USHER THE DOOR TO GRAMMY GLORY.

Usher, whose fab abs and muscular string of hits have kept him on top of the pop heap all year, began his march toward Grammy gold Tuesday by leading the crop of nominees for November's American Music Awards with four nods.

Also in hip-hop/rap, West got nodded for favorite male artist, his ``The College Dropout'' has a chance for best album, and he was mentioned for the cross-genre trophy for best newcomer.

The 32nd annual American Music Awards will be telecast Nov. 14 on ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.
