AM returns to life as GP.


WELSH Assembly Welsh Assembly nParlement gallois  Minister for Social Justice and Local Government Dr Brian Gibbons will not be seeking re-election in his Aberavon constituency at the next election.

Dr Gibbons, who will be 61 by then, was elected in the first Assembly elections and will have represented the constituency for 12 years.

He has been a Minister in the Assembly Government for nine years.

He wants to return to working as a GP before retiring.

He said: I took the decision that I would not contest the next election some time ago. I intend to do some re-training and hope I will be able to return to medical practice both here and overseas before I retire completely.

"I have been privileged to represent the people of Aberavon and to serve as a Minister in Rhodri Morgan''s cabinet. I believe Welsh Labour has transformed the fortunes of many people in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. . I'm proud to be have been part of the journey so far."

His patients'' gain will be the Assembly''s loss.
