AM Communications Demonstrates Advanced Ingress Monitoring System.

QUAKERTOWN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1998--AM Communications, Inc. announced today that it will be demonstrating a prototype of its second generation ingress An entrance.  maintaining and troubleshooting the return path have moved to "front stage" importance in the technical community, and managers are increasingly challenged to formulate and implement ingress management procedures.

The SIMS II system is a major "re-invention" of the SIMS product concept. SIMS II offers an 8x improvement in packaging density, a 10x improvement in scanning speed, and a 100x improvement in the number of measured points per RF input. The SIMS II is based on AM's new TAM 9700 modular chassis A hardware device that is designed for expansion and accepts a variety of plug-in modules of different types. High-end network switches and routers are often built with a modular chassis. See line card.  system. The TAM is slated to be the foundation chassis for all of AM's new headend monitoring products.

The SIMS II is supported in AM's OmniVU software system by a powerful 3-D graphical representation that turns thousands of pieces of monitoring data into useful management information. This display mechanism allows the user to display dozens or hundreds of logged measurements, and quickly spot return path deterioration and alarm conditions.

The user can point to any spot on any trace, and a pop-up cursor reads out the name of the serving area, the time and date of the measurement, the frequency, and the RF amplitude. The user can direct any trace on the 3-D display to be individually displayed in a 2-D spectrum analysis window for more detailed analysis, or for real time monitoring.
