ALZA's Ernest Mario Joins Catalytica Boards.

) announced today that Dr. Ernest Mario Ernest Mario (born June 12, 1938, Clifton, New Jersey) is an American pharmaceutical industry executive and the recipient of the 2007 Remington Medalist awarded by the American Pharmacists Association. , co-chairman and chief executive officer of ALZA Corp., has joined its board of directors. In addition, Dr. Mario will serve as a director of Catalytica Fine Chemicals, Inc., Catalytica's 85 percent-owned subsidiary.

Dr. Mario joined Palo Alto-based ALZA, the world's leading designer and producer of therapeutic drug delivery systems, in 1993. Before that, he was deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Glaxo Holdings p.l.c. For nearly a decade before moving to Glaxo in 1986, he was a senior executive at Squibb Corp. He holds a B.S. degree in pharmacy pharmacy, art of compounding and dispensing drugs and medication. The term is also applied to an establishment used for such purposes. Until modern times medication was prepared and dispensed by the physician himself.
