ALWAYS ON THE GO D'ERRICO A NONSTOP ALL-STAR.Byline: Lauren Gustus Staff Writer Angie D'Ericco has always had more than the average high school student's number of pots boiling away on the stove stove, device used for heating or for cooking food. The stove was long regarded as a cooking device supplementary to the fireplace, near which it stood; its stovepipe led into the fireplace chimney. It was not until about the middle of the 19th cent. . Somehow she manages to keep them all from bubbling over. In fact, most things that D'Errico has a hand in turn out well. In her senior year D'Errico, who played third base on Highland's varsity softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies' team for four years, also took advanced placement classes and served as the associate student body president. And she played varsity soccer. ``I've never not been busy,`` D'Errico said. ``I like to be on the go.`` Glenda Potts, D'Errico's coach, was sure the team captain didn't let all of her outside activities affect her contributions on the field. ``She had to juggle a lot this year,`` Potts said. ``But she still managed to give 100 percent in all the games we played.`` In the midst Adv. 1. in the midst - the middle or central part or point; "in the midst of the forest"; "could he walk out in the midst of his piece?" midmost of all her adventures this year, D'Errico didn't forget to make college plans for the fall. She'll go to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. She says she's excited about college and she hopes to show off her fielding skills at third base as well as her softball know-how to impress coach Kathy Van Wyk enough to keep her. D'Errico started softball when she was just seven and has been hooked ever since. But since she's got older, she has come to appreciate the game for different reasons. Seemingly seem·ing adj. But after 10 years, D'Errico says it is the details of the game that keep her interest piqued now, rather than chasing down foul balls for dad's team. ``I have an appreciation for softball,`` she said. ``It's more challenging for me mentally than soccer or any other sport.`` As a senior, D'Errico had a .350 batting average batting average n. So she was naturally a leader for the younger girls. ``She was our co-captain,`` said Potts. ``She knew that going into the season she was going to have to lead us.`` D'Errico said her well-honed leadership skills also worked for her in other arenas. As the ASB ASB Asbestos ASB Arbeiter Samariter Bund (German medical help organisation) ASB Anti-Social Behaviour ASB Accounting Standards Board (UK FRC) ASB Aarhus School of Business president, D'Errico served as the go-between for students at Highland and faculty and administrators. She tried to stay a step ahead of those in charge of events, adding, ``I pretty much made sure everyone did their job.`` Softball seems to be somewhat of a birthright birth·right n. 1. Her older sister, Ashley, graduated from Highland a year ago and now plays at the University of Pacific. ``The two-sister combination was very strong for us,`` said Potts. And as coach Potts will gladly tell you, D'Errico's younger sister, Amy, is going to be a freshman at Highland next year and should continue the D'Errico dynasty An application development system for enterprise client/server environments from Dynasty Technologies, Inc., Houston, TX (www.dynasty.com). It appears that little Abbey is set to follow in the tradition as well. D'Errico's dad played baseball in the Air Force, and although her mom wasn't able to play organized sports, D'Errico says she has a great time watching her daughters play. ``My family has always been really interested in the sport,`` said D'Errico. ``We just really love it.''
