DURING the Great Depression, the sales of sweets, fags and so-called comfort foods rose.

Looks like the same thing is happening this time, as the sales of pizzas climb and we all pile into McDonald's for something filling and fried 1. (hardware) fried - Non-working due to hardware failure; burnt out. Especially used of hardware brought down by a "power glitch" (see glitch), drop-outs, a short, or some other electrical event. .

Meanwhile, gym membership is on a steep decline. When all this is over, chances are we won't only be poorer, but fatter.

But let's look on the bright side.

We'll all die sooner, which means the Government won't have to spend on our pensions and have even more dosh to give to the banks.
