ALUSUISSE FLEXIBLE PACKAGING, INC. ISSUES STATEMENT CONCERNING PLANT EXPLOSION

 ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Alusuisse Flexible Packaging, Inc. confirmed that an explosion and fire at its Shelbyville, Ky., packaging plant today injured three workers. A fourth worker has not been accounted for and local fire officials indicated that he may have died in the accident. The approximately 50 other workers in the facility at the time of the accident were safely evacuated from the plant.
 The explosion occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., EDT. At this time, damage appears to be limited to a small area of the plant.
 Ritzi Reinhold, a maintenance mechanic, has been admitted at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. The other two injured workers, Mike Niles, a maintenance mechanic, and Gary Wordlow, the plant's maintenance manager, were transported via helicopter for treatment at Louisville University Hospital.
 "At a time like this, our greatest concern is for our injured workers, their families, and the safety of all of our employees," said Joseph J. Baksha, the company's chief operating officer, who departed for Shelbyville from the company's headquarters in Bellwood, Ill., upon learning of the accident.
 There was no threat to the health and safety of surrounding communities.
 The cause of the accident is under investigation by company officials and the appropriate government officials.
