The steam-powered locomotive played a key role during the development and golden age of railroading, but, despite its long and picturesque history, it has

Toronto-based GO Transit, the largest commuter railroad in Canada, awarded ALSTOM an approximately $6-million contract to overhaul 16 passenger train locomotives This is a list of locomotives (classes, or individual locomotives) that currently have articles in Wikipedia.

Monteferrante said the project involves the first overhaul work ever to be performed on EMD's 710 series engine. ALSTOM specialists said EMD's 710 series, newer than most other locomotive models in passenger and freight service, are beginning to reach the age when overhauls will need to be performed on them.

"We are the only manufacturer to be completely tooled, trained and prepared to perform this important work," Monteferrante said. "We are eager to put our expertise to work for GO Transit and demonstrate the benefits of overhaul and remanufacturing work to extend the lifecycle of locomotives."
