), a leader in PC technology, will display its new CD-Express 1200e, the first portable-based external ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) The specification for ATA (IDE) tape drives and CD-ROMs. See IDE.

ATAPI - AT Attachment Packet Interface
 IDE CD-ROM drive with double speed performance and a standalone CD Video Playback feature (Movie Base) for the television (MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). ).

The ALR CD-Express will be on display for the first time in the CES Multimedia World Pavilion, booth 10043-29, at the Las Vegas Convention Center The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and is located in Clark County, Nevada. It is one of the largest Convention centers in the world. At the end of 2004, the center had 3.  Jan. 6-9.

The CD-Express includes a host of available configurations including PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. PCMCIA created the PC Card. See PC Card. , a 16-bit sound card, and ALR's own unique "Technology Bases." These technology bases can be added to the back of the CD-ROM drive to support multimedia connectors (Audio Base) for the PC.

Dave Kirkey, vice president of sales and marketing at ALR stated, "The sophisticated flexibility of the ALR CD-Express means the customer can use it for multiple applications such as: installed in your home PC for viewing the latest multimedia applications or linked to your television set for Video-CD movie viewing.

"The same ALR CD-Express can be taken on-the-road and used with your notebook PC in the event you need to give a multimedia presentation, while at the same time you can use the ALR CD-Express to play your audio CDs."

The CD-Express 1200e is scheduled for introduction late Q1 1995.
