Prices start at $595 for a 75-MHz Pentium processor-based configuration. Key features built into the ALR Sequel 586 include PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

"With the increasing demand for 32-bit applications and the launch of Windows(R) 95, the ALR Sequel 586 will provide customers with the performance they need to run faster and more powerful software. And, with prices starting at $595, it makes sense for customers to take advantage of their current Compaq 386/486 investments. Compared to chip upgrade options, customers will also get a much better price/performance ratio In economics and engineering, the price/performance ratio refers to a product's ability to deliver performance, of any sort, for its price. For instance, if you have a whole day to travel 100 km, spending $50 to do the journey in two hours is a better price/performance ratio than  using the ALR Sequel 586," states Genny Ortegon, vice president of marketing at ALR.

The ALR Sequel 586 can be configured with Intel's 75-, 90-, 100- or 133-MHz Pentium processor. This design also adds a PCI local bus to the Compaq system's current ISA bus ISA bus - Industry Standard Architecture , providing compatibility with today's most powerful PC peripherals.  disk interface supports the latest drive technologies including PIO Mode 4, while the built-in video controller delivers accelerated local bus graphics. Combined, these features transform the Compaq system into a "Plug-n-Play" compatible powerhouse with true 64-bit memory addressing.

Ortegon states, "The making of Sequel 586 was a natural transmutation transmutation /trans·mu·ta·tion/ (trans?mu-ta´shun)

2. the change of one chemical element into another.
for ALR. ALR is an industry leader known for its PC design expertise and customers will reap the benefits of this expertise with the Sequel 586. This product also provides ALR with a great opportunity to tap into an existing multi-billion dollar market. According to IDC, Compaq has sold over 1.5 million Prolinea and Deskpro 386/486-based systems worldwide."

The ALR Sequel 586 configured with a 75-MHz Pentium processor can deliver up to a 105% performance gain over the 66-MHz 486/DX2 based systems. (Intel iCOMP CPU CPU

ratings). An upgraded 386 system can boost performance gains of over 200%. The ALR Sequel 586 is offered in a desktop and minitower configurations.

Features built into the ALR Sequel 586 include enhanced video performance using a Cirrus Logic video chip that supports 16.7 million colors, resolutions up to 1280 x 1024, and refresh rates up to 75Hz. One megabyte of video memory is standard, expandable to 2-MB. The ALR Sequel 586 supports a maximum of 128-MB of system RAM. This is four times the amount supported by the original Compaq systems. The BIOS on the ALR Sequel 586 supports Plug and Play devices and allows for 32-bit compatibility including Windows 95.

Installation of the ALR Sequel 586 is very simple. An Easy Installation video is included with all models for quick comprehension. "Installing the ALR Sequel 586 does not require any great engineering aptitude. We include all the tools, making it almost as easy as playing `connect-the-dots'," says Ortegon.

The ALR Sequel 586 system upgrades will be available this month with prices starting at $595, $695, $795 and $1,095 for Pentium 75-, 90-, 100- and 133-MHz, respectively. The products include a three year factory warranty, and ALR will provide lifetime technical assistance through ALR's toll-free technical support hotline.
