Revolution Dual6 has a starting price of under $6,000, which is 23 percent lower than the Hewlett-Packard NetServer LH Pro when configured comparably (1).

"ALR continues to lead the PC superserver industry during a time of fast growth by understanding our customers' requirements and delivering quality products and functionality they demand," said Genny Ortegon, vice president of marketing for ALR.

"The new Revolution Dual6, which adds more breadth to our line of multiprocessing Pentium Pro-based servers, establishes a new level of reliability and unprecedented performance at a lower cost."

Among the significant features of the ALR Revolution Dual6 include scaleability of up to two Pentium Pro-based processors, tremendous storage flexibility for systems requiring multiple drives, CD-ROMs, tape backup and hot-swappable storage, eight expansion slots (four 32-bit PCI, one 32-bit EISA (Extended ISA) Pronounced "ee-suh." A PC bus standard that extends the 16-bit ISA bus (AT bus) to 32 bits and provides bus mastering. ISA cards can plug into an EISA slot. It was announced in 1988 as a 32-bit alternative to the Micro Channel that would preserve investment in existing boards. However, EISA runs at the slow 8MHz speed of the ISA bus in order to accommodate any ISA cards that may be plugged into it. EISA has been superseded by PCI., and three shared PCI/EISA slots) to support high level I/O expandability for SCSI, network, video and other peripherals, and 64MB RAM expandable to 1GB ECC (Error Checking and Correction) RAM.

Corporate users demanding more versatility for sophisticated financial modeling, intensive transaction processing, and multi- dimensional database applications will benefit from ALR Revolution Dual6's data storage and processing capabilities.

To address a variety of storage options, the ALR server features a total of 14 storage bays, including one 3.5-inch floppy drive bay A cavity for a disk drive in a computer cabinet. See Device Bay., eleven 5.25-inch front accessible bays, one 3.5-inch front accessible bay, and one 3.5-inch internal bay. All storage devices utilize a 575-watt power supply that is available with optional redundancy for extended reliability and fault tolerance.

Revolution Dual6 Supports New Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0

Offering Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 support as a factory- installed option, ALR Revolution Dual6 users can take advantage of Microsoft's new server operating system for advanced file and printer sharing, applications support, communications and Internet/intranet sites.

The ALR Revolution Dual6 with Windows NT Server 4.0 targets multi-user Pentium Pro processor-based computing environments because of its linear scaleability, ease of use, Windows 95 user interface and Administrative Wizards.

ALR InforManager Server Management System Provides Round-the-Clock Protection

To optimize network server system uptime, the ALR Revolution Dual6 offers a number of pre-configured server hardware management features through the company's own ALR InforManager embedded system board monitoring system. A wide array of integrated sensors monitors key environmental information such as system and processor temperatures, fan operation, system voltages, memory faults, and chassis security via software monitoring under Windows NT and Novell NetWare.

Displaying up-to-the-minute status, the ALR InforManager gives network administrators the opportunity to adjust system problems before they lead to costly server downtime and component damage.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $5,595, the ALR Revolution Dual6 is available in mid- October through ALR's international network of resellers and major distributors, including Tech Data, Gates/Arrow and JBS Open Systems Distribution.

All ALR products are backed by a 5-year/36-month limited warranty, which covers major systems components (chassis, keyboard, CPU module, systems and power supply) for a period of five years; associated labor costs and ALR installed peripherals are covered for 36 months. ALR also offers three-year, on-site service support free of charge, with optional coverage for up to five years.
