Many years ago, descendants would have lived from a lake in the Netherlands which is how the name first originated.  as vice president and member of the worldwide executive management team at ALPNET.

In making the announcement, the company noted that van der Meer was the founder and former managing director of INK, a major competitor in the language translation industry, which was sold to R.R. Donnelly in 1993.

Seal also said, "Mr. van der Meer will be based in The Netherlands, and will lead ALPNET's establishment of ALPNET-Netherlands in providing translation into Dutch as well as serving Dutch multinational clients with translation into other languages. In addition, he will lead ALPNET's worldwide sales to the Computer Hardware and Software Industries, and will take the lead role in establishing a software localization center dedicated to providing these specialized translation services."
