The Antelope Valley
 leaders and two scholarship recipients at its inaugural Pink and Green Celebration of Excellence.

Chi Kappa Omega Chapter's breakfast program at Cascades restaurant on June 24 honored five people who chapter leaders said made a significant impact on the Antelope Valley by promoting positive values and providing worthwhile and dedicated service.

Honorees were:

Dorothy Cage, co-founder of Joyful Sound Fellowship.

Jim Lott, longtime valley educator and Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale
 board member.

Gwendolynne Cole, program coordinator for the Black Infant Health Program.

Two recent high school graduates were also honored for their academic achievement and awarded $500 scholarships.

The Chapter's Pearl Award went to Donna Thomason, Chi Kappa Omega's first president, for her leadership in guiding the local chapter through the chartering process in 2003, carrying out the chapter's programs, and community service.

The program included a talk on ``Being Excellent'' delivered by Tulane University engineering professor Calvin Mackie, an author and inventor and recipient of the 2003 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
