ALOHA AIRLINES PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER RESIGNS

HONOLULU, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Aloha Airgroup today announced the resignation of its President and Chief Executive Officer, A. Maurice Myers. Myers was also president and chief executive officer of the company's primary subsidiary, Aloha Airlines Inc.
Myers will become president and chief operating officer of America West Airlines, based in Phoenix. America West serves 67 cities in the United States and Mexico, with $1.2 billion in revenue and over 10,000 employees. For the past two years, America West has operated under bankruptcy court protection. The company is currently soliciting bids from interested investor groups and, last week, received an offer of $250 million for 80 percent of the company's equity from Steinhardt Management, a New York money management firm.
Myers joined Aloha in 1983, as senior vice president, Marketing and Services. In 1985, he was named president and chief executive. During this period, the company has prospered with market share growing from 38 percent to its current level of 60 percent. The company has been profitable in every year since 1985, except 1992, when Hurricane Iniki pushed the company into the red.
Myers serves on the boards of Hawaiian Electric Industries and American Savings Bank, FSB. He has been very active in community affairs and currently serves as chairman of the State Tourism Marketing Council. He also serves on the boards of Aloha United Way, Bishop Museum, Blood Bank of Hawaii, Historic Hawaii Foundation and on the advisory boards of the Hawaii Family Stress Center and University of Hawaii Travel Industry Management School.
Han H. Ching, chairman of the Aloha board, said, "It is expected that the Aloha board will conduct a search for Myers' successor, considering both internal and external candidates." He said that the company has a strong management team and he expects business as usual, while the search is conducted.
