ALM's Legal Times Names Alison Bethel as Executive Editor.WASHINGTON -- Legal Times(R), Washington's leading source of legal news, today named Alison Bethel 1 Ancient city of central Palestine, the modern Baytin, the West Bank, N of Jerusalem. According to the Bible, where it is frequently mentioned, it was originally called Luz (see Luz (1)). The Book of Genesis relates that Abraham built his first altar in Canaan here and that the name Bethel, given to Jacob's sacred stone, was then transferred to the town itself. She joins Legal Times from The Detroit News where she had been Washington bureau chief since 2001, after serving as the paper's features editor. Previously, Bethel held a variety of positions at The Boston Globe, including assistant business editor, deputy business editor and senior assistant city editor in charge of city hall, urban affairs and transportation. Her journalism career also includes work at the States-Times in Baton Rouge, La.; the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y; and The Poughkeepsie Journal. She is a member and past Boston president of Women in Communications, and a member of National Association of Black Journalists and DIVA Inc. - A Society for Women in the Arts. She sits on the boards of the Washington Shakespeare Company, the National Press Club and the Arts Club of Washington.
