ALLTEL (NYSE:AT) is now offering customers easy access to some of the most popular Internet sites for news, sports, entertainment and wireless games.

The Walt Disney Internet Group will provide content from ABCNEWS.com, ESPN.com, Mr. Showbiz, and Family.com.

-- nGame Ltd. - Alien Fish Exchange, DataClash, Carrier Force, Merchant

-- Tribune Media Services and Mobliss - JUMBLE(R); and

-- Airborne Entertainment - PocketBoxOffice which includes the gaming channel

"Wireless games and messaging are showing early signs of being enormous drivers of wireless data traffic, especially with teen-agers and young professionals," said Michael McGuire, research director with Gartner, Inc., a research and advisory firm. "More importantly, wireless games are poised to become very important revenue generators for wireless carriers because they can charge in terms of a special subscription package, but most likely because wireless gamers will be using up airtime to satisfy their cravings. We are convinced there are very interesting revenue possibilities based on combining wireless gaming and emerging wireless advertising applications."

Junker said the growing popularity of wireless gaming spurred ALLTEL's decision to offer more games for customers with "Web Unwired," ALLTEL's wireless Internet service.

"Wireless phones offer more than convenience and security as a communications tool. They provide a creative way to have fun, too, by playing wireless games," Junker said. "ALLTEL is providing some of the hottest new wireless games available today for customers to play by themselves or compete against other players."

In addition, Web Unwired customers now can use their wireless phones to locate their favorite restaurant, nearest ATM or movie theatre and much more when traveling. Through an agreement with go2(R), ALLTEL is providing location-based directory and enhanced information services to its customers. Go2's wireless directory service lets users search more than 16 million businesses across the United States and find directions, phone numbers, sales promotions and coupons.
