Cf Blue Cross. of Minnesota (BCBSM BCBSM Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan ) announced the start of a mediation process today to resolve their differences related to their hospital provider agreements. The parties selected as their mediator Sheryl Ramstad Hvass, an attorney with the Minneapolis law firm Rider Bennett Egan and Arundel. Hvass met today with representatives of Allina and BCBSM to start the mediation process. The parties have agreed to a series of mediation sessions over the next several weeks in an attempt to bring the contract negotiations to a successful resolution. Both Allina and BCBSM voiced satisfaction in being able to pick an experienced mediator so quickly and in establishing a firm mediation schedule. Hvass, a former Hennepin County District Court judge, has mediated over 450 disputes. The current hospital contract between Allina and BCBSM has been extended until a settlement is reached. In the event the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the current contract will remain in place for 45 days following the date the mediator declares an impasse.
